1945 - Chicago Cubs fan and tavern owner "Billy Goat" Sianis purchased two box seat tickets for Game 4 of the World Series for about $14 - one for himself the other for his goat. When he and the goat were ejected from the stadium he purportedly placed a curse on the Cubs that they would never win another World Series. The curse has held for more than 60 years.
